    Photo 5

One of the *many* other reasons i've been away/busy/ignoring you all.
    Canon Photo 5.

    Canon 5: Cocktail Umbrella

The public gallery opens today, and competition is fierce. I don't expect to win, but my big challenge was to actually *enter* something, even if I thought it was crap/not good enough.
So i've done that, and as a bonus, I don't think they're too bad at all.

Upon registering, Canon sent you 5 'mystery' items, which you have to photograph individually, and creatively - the items were: a tealight candle, a length of red ribbon, a crayon, a cocktail umbrella, and a little pot of bubble mixture.

The thing about competitions is they make you ( ok, me ) realise how uncreative you are. Obviously your first idea is everyone else's too, even if you think "but it's such a GOOD idea".
A look at the gallery so far confirms this.

Oh, and despite being a photography competition, it's equally about creativity, and as such, yes, photoshopping is allowed, and yes, my Mary Poppins pic is actually 3 photographs I took combined into one - there's me ( wearing an old work suit that is pinned at the back to fit - I should have taken a 'outtake' to show, with my knickers all hanging out. The 4yr old thought it was hilarious ! ), then the sky as seen from my backdoor, and the 'creative' item: a cocktail umbrella, which I have rescaled to purpose.

I was so certain this would not be an original idea, but am pleased to announce I am the first on the website to do this - yay !! Anyone else with the same idea to upload later will simply be an imitator - yay !!

    Ribbon Sandwiches

My second pic so far is this one titled "Tea Party" featuring the ribbon made into tasty sandwiches with cucumber .. 'ribbon sandwiches' - geddit, geddit ?? This one is straight-out-of-camera, and my sister likes it better .. but I like a more dramatic look, so it's the self-portrait I like best. It is also the only one of it's kind so far, although a few people seem to have had the idea of turning their ribbons into noodles to eat from a bowl.

So anyway, it's all i've been thinking about for weeks. Doing the shopping .. when I should be sleeping ... instead of feeding the family ...

Still got my other 3 to upload though - it's hard to set things up with 2 little kids and life in general. I don't have time to linger on the actual shoot - I have to get it right before being discovered absent from duty. For this, I thank my wonderful husband .. and Monday's at kinder :p

Oh, and I also did my first maternity shoot yesterday, with a lovely girl ready to pop this week !
Too bad I can't share those as they are so beautiful. I was just so happy to have the opportunity. She doesn't read here, but i'd like to thank her anyway, for being such a good model, & happy to get her kit off. She'll be a great mum, you can just tell.

So good times, but busy times.

    Satisfying :)

Good for you! You are becoming quite the photographer aren't you? And now taking photos for people..well done.

I like the ribbon sandwiches - aI like your idea of those rather than the noodles, I mean *that's* not an original idea is it?

Looking forward to seeing the next pics you share with us.

Bloody fantastic woman! I love the red ribbon image, it's truly fantastic and I trust you will win or at the very least, have one of those highly commended stamps placed across your name :-)

You know, I would have eaten one of those ribbon sandwiches if you didn't tell me they were really ribbon sandwiches. I love the green apples with the red ribbon. Very fresh. Good luck. How have you been taking such lovely photos in such crappy dark weather?

Wow, good for you - they look fantastic!! I so understand the complete absorption in this kind of project. It's a constant juggle but it all happens eventually.

Gorgeous shots. Never quite pictured you as Mary Poppins....

thanks so much for the reminder about the tv. Am shooting off to program the dvd recorder. I'll be teaching my year 10s when it is on in real time.

Oh wow - can't believe how late I am to this party - what amazing photos - you have such a gift for styling (I've said it before!) which I have no patience for.

Truly wonderful - and also well done on entering something as presigious as this...

Your allowed to be away from blogland if you are using it to produce photos like those! Good luck in the competition.

No wonder you have been 'absent'. Great work!

Those are excellent - and much more creative than the average cocktail umbrella or ribbon photo :)

Good luck! I hope you win big :)

Oh, and for the pot of bubble mixture I would take a photo of me with washing up gloves on using it at dishwashing liquid as I did yesterday because we were out of the real stuff. Wow, I'm so creative! You can use it if you like ... hee hee ;)

I tried it last year but forgot this year. I am very amateur.
