    I am a mess today

We haven't decided what to do with Hamlyn.

I went out with friends last night and managed to have a good time.
    I even forgot.
It wasn't until I got home, and A. said we had a decision to make that I was jolted back into reality and soon there was a massive pile of Kleenex beside me. And again this morning.

I have slitty puffy eyes. Glad we have no plans this weekend besides backyard labour.

    Choices:
Mass Cremation: with a heap of other unknown animals
Individual Cremation: ( we did this for Piper, our first cat .. prices have quadrupled since then ) .. you get ashes back to keep or bury.
Body Intact: for burial at home, in a house he hated, to be eaten by bugs and worms :(

I have no idea. I am trying to tell myself that a body is simply a vehicle for a soul, so it doesn't matter if he's roughly thrown in a pile of dogs, budgies and horses .. but it does.

We're supposed to get back to the Vet today to let him know what we'll be doing.

Wow, what a decision to have to make; it must be very difficult. Sending you loads of cyber hugs.

I'm so sorry to hear about your cat. Of course you are a mess, it is heart-breaking to lose your special friend. I'm sure he wouldn't mind being buried at your new house, the main thing is you are there, and if you find him a sunny place you can always look at that place and remember him and imagine him happy, basking in the warmth.

OHhh! I'd totally missed these posts. Thanks proxy! So sorry. It's such a sad thing to lose a long time pet. My parents cremated their dogs individually each time. Their plan was to scatter the ashes over the park where the holiday house is as both dogs loved it up there. However, both little boxes with ashes intact are still sitting on the sideboard.

Sorry to hear of your family loss, when our dogs had pups we lost a couple and buried them on the property. As you say the body is only a vehicle for them while they are on earth but if that is no longer the case then atleast you'd have somewhere close by to visit. good luck with it honey

So, sorry to hear about Hamylyn. We have a pet burial ground under our apricot tree.. I quite like the idea of them going back into the earth (which is what I'd like to do when my time comes, sorry if I'm being a bit grisly... but it is nice to have a special place

Where have I been all week! I am so sorry to hear about Hamlyn. I haven't included it in my blog yet but my little man Howie (cat) hasn't returned home for 10 days and I'm now resigned to the fact that he is probably dead. He was looking a little under the weather one day and I thought if he isn't any better tomorrow I would take him to the vet. Well Mr J let him out the following morning after he threw up in the laundry. He thought it was a furball. I now think he had a tick and wandered off, curled up and died. I have been beating myself up over it, ever since. If only I had got up first and saw him, etc , etc. Mr J didn't know he was off colour the day before. He was my little man before we had kids. He got shunted aside alot after we had them - and that was/is a great sadness to me. The thing that cuts the most is that he probably died a painful death. See I probably should write a post...

Sorry to take over your story...I feel your pain.

    Big hugs.

Our animals were always buried on the farm and I haven't had to deal with more urban disposal yet - other than goldfish. With a nine year old dog (and two cats, but they're young) we'll have to make some of your decisions one day, but I don't know what the answer will be. Probably back to the earth...?

Whatever you do, I hope it brings a peaceful farewell to Hamlyn, who sounds like a wonderful cat and a great mate.

Hamlyn was beautiful, a lovely 'suitcase' to carry his little Cat soul about in!

Good luck with your decision- he was yours, so I am sure he will approve.
