    Unsolicited Meme

As good a name as any - pinched from Telfair.

I know ... me and memes .. supposed to hate them .. this one appealed .. so sue me :)

What kind of soap is in your bathtub?

"You'll Love Coles Honey and Milk Bodywash".
I love the smell of this, and it's cheaper than the branded competition.

Do you have any watermelon in your refrigerator?
    Why yes, yes I do.

What would you change about your living room?
    More room for more seating.

Are the dishes in your dishwasher clean or dirty?
Dirty. I don't turn it on until the thing is well and truly full.

    What is in your refrigerator?
Quarter of a watermelon, half a pineapple, milk, condiments, wine, beer, veges, eggs and strawberries

    White or wheat bread?
    Soy & Linseed

What is on top of your refrigerator?
A cookbook holder with an old copy of a Donna Hay Christmas Magazine to the front, a cake stand, and kitchen scales. Dust.

What color or design is on your shower curtain?
    Lemony-cream.
I've been looking for a new one as it's rather ratty, but this colour appears to be rare and it really suits the lemon & green bathroom...

How many plants are in your home?
    Eight.
Normally there's just my Madonna Peace Lily .. but at the moment, there's also a new Silver Birch and 6x Dianellas in the entrance way, waiting to be planted in the newly razed front garden...

Is your bed made right now?
    Yep.
Usually as soon as I get up/vacate it, and if not, before I get in the shower. .. When I was working though, I often didn't...

    Comet or Soft Scrub?
    Que ?

    Is your closet organized?
    I don't have a closet.
I share a wardrobe with my son, in his room. It's pretty cramped, but I can always find what I need.

Do you drink out of glass or plastic most of the time at home?
    Glass.

Do you have iced tea made in a pitcher right now?
No, but I love iced tea. Yum. Hate hot tea though - yuk.

If you have a garage, is it cluttered?
No, I don't like clutter, and my husband is not a 'garage tinkerer', so that means i'm not encroaching on anyone's territory to keep it tidy.
Our garage is from the 30's, so it actually doesn't fit a norties car. So there's the lawnmower, various hedgecutters and gardening tools, a dusty highchair, weedkiller/poisons and etc... Oh, and a ne'er used pushbike ( brand new, ridden twice, just as I predicted ).
    But it's pretty tidy.

    Curtains or blinds?
    Curtains. Unfortunately.
Blinds are on the list. I ordered a Luxaflex catalogue the other day....

How many pillows do you sleep with?
One. I'm equally happy with none.

Do you sleep with any lights on at night?
    No.

    How often do you vacuum?
    Once a week.
Because of my penchant for open doors and no screens, it should be more often though..

    Standard toothbrush or electric?
    Standard.

    What color is your toothbrush?
Baby Blue. It's a Sensodine one, which has a teeny-tiny head, which I love - why are all manual toothbrushs designed for huge heads/mouths ?!?!

Do you have a welcome mat on your front porch?
Nope. Because then the screen door wouldn't be able to open.
There's a mat on the inside of the door though.

What is in your oven right now?
A dirty tray from last night's oven-baked chicken thighs.
    They were yummy.

Is there anything under your bed?
I hate shite under the bed, so i'd like to say 'no', but then i'd be lying.
The crap is all on HIS side though - a sports bag, shoes, golf magazines, a lavender/wheat heat bag..

Chore you hate doing the most?
Anything that involved me immersing my hands in warm water - washing dishes, washing babies/children.

What retro items are in your home?
The most unreal lavender cut-glass art deco ashtray I use to dump jewellery/coins/buttons in. It's from AB's grandmother's 'estate', and I chose it ( and a red glass candy bowl ) from a table of 'junk' deigned for the Op Shop.
No-one understood why I would possibly want an old ashtray, but it's gorgeous - why do some people feel you have to stick to tags?:
"It's an ashtray. i dont smoke = why would I want an ashtray ?".
Because an ashtray, does not have to be an ashtray ! duh !

I also have an old burnt orange casserole dish, from my mum/the 70's, and some bits and pieces of furniture from Op Shops and eBay.
Actually, since i have more readers now, can someone help me with this question from when I first started blogging:
    http://house-n-baby.blogspot.com/2006/05/my-green-chairs.html ?

Do you have a separate room that you use as an office?
    Nope.

How many mirrors are in your home?
Do I include all the windows I often see members of this family ( me included ) checking themselves out in ? Vanity, I tell ya..

    What color are your walls?
    Cream.
Except for 'the blue room' and the splashes of green paint on the wall of the 'front room' as I tested out samples ( project on the backburner ATM ).
Oh, and the cornicing in the front room and the dining room has been detailed in bright red and gold. Tacky. I didn't do that.

Do you keep any kind of protection weapons in your home?
    err... not really ?
There's things I can utilise though - the usual kitchen knives, a golf club, my Emjoi Gently ....

What does your home smell like right now?
    Driveway sealant ( pooh ! )

    Favorite candle scent?
    Anything subtle and natural.
Nothing sickly like "Strawberry Delight!", or "Pineapple Heaven!".
    Gag Me.
I normally burn oils, and I keep going back to "Moonflower" from The Body Shop..

What kind of pickles (if any) are in your refrigerator right now?
A jar of pickled onions ( how old are they ? ), and a jar of yellow pickle spread ( the type you ate in childhood ) that my mum bought and ate when she was living here.
A jar of cornichons from the last time I made Salsa Verde ( drooOoOooOoool - mum asked for the recipe this year so she could make it to go with Christmas meats - yummmmm )

What color is your favorite Bible?
I have a yellow "Good News" one ( wedding present ).
I thought we also had a black one, but it's not on the bookshelf, so maybe not.
I used to also have a tiny red "Gideons" one given to every 5th ? 6th grader back in Primary School. I'm not religious, but I have faith. It's hard to define - my own personal brand of religion.
Always makes me think of Depeche Mode:

    Your own. Personal. Jesus.
    Someone to hear your prayers
    Someone who cares...

I guess my favourite bible isn't in book form, or written in words.
It's in my heart. Naff ? Probably.

    Ever been on your roof?
    No.

    Do you have a stereo?
You mean a turntable ? No.
We have 2x CD players with stereo speakers though.

How many TVs do you have?
Three. Before I met my husband, I lived happily with NONE.
We have one in the loungeroom, one in my son's room ( I know, I know ... but it's so nice when he takes himself off to watch "Monsters Inc" and leave us alone :p ), and the old TV is gathering dust in the garage.

    How many house phones?
    Two.

    Do you have a housekeeper?
Since my own personal motto is "don't touch my stuff", I think i'd have problems with a housekeeper - is she peeking in my drawers, slacking off, stealing things ?

What style do you decorate in?
My style. People that buy any old ticky-tacky just because it's "shabby chic" and their house is "shabby chic" does not a tasteful house make.

Do you like solid colors in furniture or prints?
    Probably solid.

Is there a smoke detector in your house?
    Yep.

In case of fire, what are the items in your house which you'd grab if you could make only one trip?
I'm assuming the cat ran for it, and the husband and child are also out.
Umm .. nothing I can think of offhand. I've already lost all my childhood albums and momentoes as a result of a different kind of natural disaster*, so I think as a result i'm more blasé about "stuff".

    * divorce, not mine - my parents. Dad took everything.
I highly doubt he even looks at the albums if he still has them, but as long as we don't have them....

And because you've suffered this far along ... ta-dah ... a sneak peek at the new driveway...
We're doing some planting this afternoon ( probably ), so I might wait to take the 'full effect' pic..

Well that was an interesting read! I LOVE the surface of the driveway - nice looking texture and good colour with your house.

Lucky I didn't spot the purple ashtray when I was there. Might have disappeared into my purple handbag.

Fantastic meme. I see why you had to do it.
I had a look at the green chairs and can't help you identify them. I think the date sounds about right (not that I am any furniture expert).
I can see why you had to have them, they are such a lovely, simple style.

I feel like I now know far more about you than I should! What a revealing collection of questions.

That was a great Friday night read.

I know nothing about the furniture either - I even tried to google it to no avail.

Is there an antiques store or auction house close enough by to ask?

    Great meme! Very revealing...

I love that driveway surface. What is it called? I'd like to get ours re-done sometime.

yes, the meme was a bit all over the shop - probably why it appealed ! ;)

Fairlie - the dive is "exposed aggregate", which is basically concrete with lots of stones in it ( you pick your colour mix ). I'll email you more info, but we are VERY impressed, and it was the cheapest of all options we looked at !

I once wrote the copy for a Luxaflex ad. I can't remember what I wrote but I'm sure it was brilliant.

So. How do YOU feel about Donna Hay?

    Enjoyed your meme.
Love those chairs. No ideas about who or what though, sorry.
Obviously made with pride, if they cared enough to stamp them, so treasures indeed!

Memes are such fun, no idea if they reveal anything significant or not but fun none the less.

Oh, keep the curtains - they look great, as does your Christmas tree!
