    Wow

I know it's not the latest book on the block, and I haven't seen the movie, but I think this has been the best book I have read this year.

"Combining unadorned realism with profound empathy, House of Sand and Fog is a devastating exploration of the American Dream gone awry"

It will take a while to shed the skins of the characters that
    consumed me as I read.

yes it is an awesome book - I read it a couple of years ago when I was addicted to Oprahs book club ( I know the L imprint is still on my forehead!) and they talked about it etc The movie is also absolutely fantastic.Go watch it now!

I was just about to tell you it was part of Oprah's book club but Joanne was already on to it. Apparently the movie is great and I would love to see it too. Thanks for reminding me about it.

I saw the shorts for the movie and that turned me right off the book. Perhaps I'll give it a go afterall.

Well, I can't read it then. Believe me, you don't want to be around me when I'm immersed in a book, and if it's gonna stay with me, well that's all the more 'grumpy with anyone who dares disturb my headspace time' isn't it?
Perhaps when the kids are teenagers, I'll trump their moods and surliness...

(This is why I hardly ever read anymore)
