Husband came back from 2weeks O/S and quite frankly, I think all that half-wakefulness of sleeping with a knife under your pillow, listening for burglers, rapists and kidnappers ( i'm nothing if not dramatic ) caught up with me.
We baked a welcome-back banana cake ( MC decorated, there are sprinkles all over this house now, but i'm not vaccuuming until that cake is gone! ) and the boy got some great clothing outlet gifities, including these fab ( already scuffed ) boots. He's one spoilt kiddo.
Anyway, onto the Flash Slideback.
I *was* going to blog about the beginning of the boy-years, when nice milkbar owners wanted to know if they could help me, Sonny ? .. but then I saw Poppalina already went there, so I thought i'd start at the very beginning .. a lead-up, if you will.
THIS is the gorgeous hair my toddlerhood was blessed with - very girly, blonde, Shirley-Temple-esque curls. Apparently it was too much for my mother to deal with, as i'd run a mile before putting a comb through all the knots, and it took a lot of effort.
I can relate. I don't have time for that sort of carry-on either.
I would have cut it too.
Although that's when it straightened, went brown, and I ended up looking like a boy. Bah !
I love this pic, I love my tartan pants, that I look so happy, and I *loved* those curtains. I remember staring at them and making stories in my head about all the pretty girls.

I do that horrible half-sleeping thing when Peter's not here, too. Worse than that, for ages now I've been having hallucinations during the night. I'm wrecked by the time he gets home on fridays.
Oh my goodness, how CUTE are you in that photo!?
Another 'child on telephone' photo - I feel quite left out, not having one of those of my own!
How gorgeous were your curls?
How adorable are you?!
I seem to have skipped your fantastic news about the NB! Congrats!
how cute! those curls and those cheeks!!
I'm feeling a bit left out with the phone thing too... but I'm going to do some with Grace just so she'll have them...
I don't even try to sleep when I'm alone in the house. A nap 4pm-6pm will keep me going.
Beautiful slideback photo!
I thought I was a freak for not being able to sleep when husband was away, I see I am totally normal! I put my mobile under the pillow, and construct scenarios in my head, (think about what heavy objects are lying about, ready to be used as knocking over the head implements) I am also comforted by the mess, no intruder could enter without tripping over -something-. Sometimes I even deliberately place obstacles.
Oh, and of course, cute photo! Gorgeous hair!
I have to sleep with the phone by the bed but luckily Fixit never leaves me for long.
That is the most adorable picture. I would not have cut your hair. Little golden curls are the best!
You look like the original Sugar Plum baby girl!! I will bet you were just ADORED by the wider family members!!!
The sleeping alone thing- yeah, you never get over it, so I hope i die before the GOM! haha!
It really s a gorgeous pic, you were so sweet!
That is such a gorgeous pic and the hair and cute smile are adorable. Love the tartan pants too!
I too am a phone by the bed sleeper, although the cricket bat is never far away. From the girl with the dead straight hair, daggers for you my friend. And those curtains are just to die for! Oh, to know where they are now?
I've too got the mobile by the bed ( in the movies, killers always cut the landline ), and a golf club under the bed.
Crafty, I also 'accidentally' left the pram blocking one door, and a mini-tramp blocking another.
So glad i'm not the only rabid one who watches too much TRUE CRIME on the tele ;)
If my wife saw that picture of such a criminally adorable child, you'd hear her uterus squeak all the way to Land's End.

As a mother of an affro haired kid I am so with your mum for cutting it. Washing, brushing. tieing up, untieing it....all an effort.
But i cant cut it.
Very cute, though I can understand the curls getting chopped off too. Tangles, tangles. I had tartan pants too!
I've enjoyed your comments so much on other blogs, I had to come check yours out. I had those pants! And a matching turtleneck. Very stylish.
I sleep with the light on if Rob isn't home and put both kids in the bed with me.... so we're together in case of an emergency.
No cute picture of me on a phone either! Love that it was such a standard pose though because look at the gorgeous results. Now I am going to be out of step with you all because I love it when J is in the city and I have three nights to myself. Love it! Mind you I had to give myself a stern talking to when we moved up here - telling myself I would NOT be afraid!
Oh wow, I went through that "my god, an axe wielding maniac is breaking in" thing last week in the absence of the husband.
Every branch against the window, every creak of the floorboards, was someone coming to get me. Never mind the kids, I was only worried about my own arse!!
I usually leave all the outside lights on and sleep with the phone on the pillow next to me. I even programme 000 into the phone so its on the last number redial. I figure the time taken to press those 3 digits could be the difference between life and death or sodomy at the hands of some psycho!
Ah yes, I understand the bad-sleep when left as the only adult in the house for nights on end, that was me too all of last week. It takes a bit of catchup sleep for the week after, doesnt it.
You were so cute! I'd have done anything for those curls.
I think I must be the only person in the western world who doesn't have a photo as a youngster holding a phone.
Haha! I remember the hair, the pants, that phone! What a cutie you are. And how sweet to bake a sprinly banana cake for your hubs.
