We decided nothing is worth keeping, and even if it was, the root structure of the Camphor Tree has 'rooted' everything anyway .. including the fence, which it has buckled, and I gave a tentative girly kick to, and it damn near fell onto the footpath....
The good news is, decision made, we're going to get onto it and stop stuffing around. This is the 3rd time we've hacked into the front yard, only to have it regenerate and the effort wasted.
We've been putting it off, as to do things properly, there's a fair bit of structural work and $$ to be spent. Well, we've hacked it now.
Slash 'n' burn.
The only way is up.
It feels good to commit.
Remains of the Day: broken cheap $20 wheelbarrow, the 'good' pitchfork ( snapped in half ), slabs of 'crete, bags of weeds, about 8000 wanna-be Camphor trees, steel piping, the old water line to the house, some heavenly bamboo ( which I love, but this was weed infested, unlooked after, and I have plenty enough to spare ) other crap.
I'm looking forward to the next chapter ( a project ! a project ! )

You have had a very busy weekend indeed! And lots of progress made too by the sounds of it!
The camphor tree sounds like one hell of a pest.
Moving on up!!!
The wheelbarrow is a nice touch.
I would add some plastic hands under it to really give it some pizazz.
Bloody Camphor! They keep trying to sneak into our garden, but we uproot the saplings. Thankfully, no root system to regenerate.
I live the 'obliterate everything and start with a clean slate' approach. And, YAY, a project!
does the camphor tree smell like mothballs?
Slash and burn definately. We had to do this with our backyard. Now it doesn't contain any surprises - boring - but managable.
Oh H&B you know I feel your pain - literally and physically!
It is good to commit to a plan - it's also good for one of those committing to be the "heavy lifter" of the operation. Once you've got one of those you're away ;-)
DMM:
Yes. Yes, it does ;)
When we first got it chipped, I swooned on the smell for days. A botanist friend scoffed and said "that's re-generation you can smell". Bloody Camphors !
Blimey. I feel tired just reading about that!
Good luck with the next stages ...
