    Melbourne Showers bring ..

    .... internal disasters

Well, not really, but not good either.

This morning in our 'utility room' ( I have no idea what to call it - it's the ex-physio workroom of the previous owner, and where I do hair and makup, and keep all the kiddie-craft stuff and where the ironing is done .. and one day, it may be a plush-o new bathroom. Maybe )

Anyway, so i'm doing my hair, and the kiddo is wrapping up a 'present' we made for a baby we will be visiting today. All of a sudden the walls started 'weeping' and it was 'uh-oh' town.

Before we renovated our first house, we used to put out pots before the rain, to catch the water from a leaking skylight in the kitchen :)
Hopefully this is just a flashing-replacement problem, but who knows.
At least a leaking skylight is 'catchable'.... weeping walls not so easy.
I just took down all my 'inspiration mag clippings, and the kiddo's artwork, and stuck towels on the floor.

We've got some very bad guttering that needs to be replaced, and we really should have our roof looked at as a matter of course...
I guess AB's 'dream driveway' will have to wait.
Me, i'm kinda happy this happened to get our arses into gear. It has been something we've been putting off ...

Oh, and besides pots, buckets and towels, fly-swatters are a VERY innovative, if not so effective solution....

We had similar problems until we did the re-guttering thing. I was very surprised when we got the quotes as, to date, it has been one of the cheapest things to replace on our home - I just don't get the logic as to what's expensive and what's not expensive in the house renovation stakes?

We could have used that flyswatter here at the time too!

Aaarg, how ghastly for you. The leak - tis my nightmare. Our previous house leaked like a sieve, we'd got all tense and worried whenever it even looked like rain. Here (fingers crossed) we've only had a few scares, one was because Mr Brown hadn't cleared the gutters for a bit and the other because of "fat arse syndrome" - yep, he'd sat on the roof and pushed a wee gap in it - easy fixed though.
Best of luck with the gutters.

Your boy looks adorable swatting the water in his pjs. Hours of fun.

We've had a few experiences with water down the walls in past houses - in one house, we called it our indoor water feature... Nothing like it to get one moving on the re-guttering!

How cute is your son there!

Hope the cure for the weeping walls is nice and easy.

Looks as though your son is having fun with the fly swatter too. I hope that you get your roof fixed soon, and that you dont get any more leaking walls and ceilings. At least if you get it fixed now, then if we get more rain you wont be worried about it anymore.

Uh-oh. This happened to us last year too, it was blocked gutters in our case. The renvotion thing never ends, does it?
Its been raining here on and off for three days. Farmers walking around smiling, everyone walking around smiling!

We eventually had to face reality and totally re-roof the house. I still can't sit on my wallet for the awful pain.

Little Master B is having fun!
We have discovered another leak in our roof, with the recent lovely rain.
Would you believe we have had 3 previous leaks- all covered by insurance- all supposedly 'fixed forever'. At least we get the ceiling repainted -we didnt do the one in the lounge, when we painted the walls.

Perhaps we may find ourselves in a similar boat as one of our walls seems to have sucked up too much moisture from the paint is now peeling from the inside. Can't be good. Hopefully your fix isn't too costly and life-altering!! Master B is doing his part.
