Because i'm crazy, I decided I was sick of my dead & weedy 'front garden' on one of the hottest days this week. Seriously, i've never tasted such salty sweat from my own skin. I felt like I should have been in manly can-crushing beer commercial.
Anyway, I had some 'free money' in the form of Bunnings Vouchers, so I used 'em.
Back row: standard icebergs
Middle row: chocolate coloured 'Phormium' ( which is a strappy flaxy type plant ), and leggy, fragrant, wonderful English lavender: out front.
New pinebark for mulching and voila ! Transformation !
I haven't seen English lavender for aaages ( and I still haven't seen any French this year - maybe it's a fashion/trend thing ? ). You can always find Italian and NZ lavenders, but not much else.
I was really happy to get the English kind. It's by far the most fragrant, and I got the last 8 small cheapies 'on special'. Yay.

Love the way you layered by height and great choices. Fantastic house, btw. Wierd weather here too - burning hot at 12 and windy coat weather at 3.
Another wonderful transformation. I like your house too. I think I better get myself to a nursery/Bunnings while I'm picking my plants (which is underway). Those "I don't need water" tags are right up my alley.
weather here is freezing cold and occasional tornadoes. I think I would prefer your heat anyday!
It is crazy hot and smokey. We're all having to rethink our garden choices hey? At least lavender is a beautiful drought friendly option.

Good choices. Yes, I have noticed a lot of the 'new' lavenders dont seem to have much scent.

Can't believe you gardened yesterday (although it does look fabbo, and I love the lavender)! What are you going to do today, vacuum under all the heavy furniture? I'm going to the pool this afternoon and apart from that I will be grumping horribly at my children. I don't cope when the mercury goes over 35. Can't even hang my washing out because I don't want them to smell like smoke! Uuurrgh.

HOT is right. Your garden bed looks perfect. I'm going to need gardening advice before long. we have new water restrictions coming in in the New Year - and I don't know where to start.
