    Beware of Late Scratchings

    Melbourne Cup Day

" The Race That Stops a Nation"

We get a public holiday in Victoria today for a horse race - I couldn't think of a better reason. Love it.

Too few occasions these days to frock up, heel up, perhaps don a hat or a fascinator, and sup on chicken and champagne.

Horses ? Yeah, they look pretty too.

We're off to a luncheon, looking forward to it, should be fun.
The food last year was awesome, so I have high expectations, yumm..

Hope you all have a bit of a tipple, a bit of a punt, and a bit of a win today ! :)

I've never been so into Melbourne Cup as this year. I have no idea why! I still don't understand the first thing about gambling but after listening to the radio for half an hour this is what I have done:

    $2 each way on Tawqeet.

$6 boxed trifecta on Yeats, Maybe Better and Mandela.

5 x $1 sweeps tickets for the family through work... not yet picked out.

I think the Catholic half of my genes beat the Methodist side today!

    Enjoy your day!!

I hope I have a win too, seeing as I've cancelled teaching for tonight. Have sent my sister off with my last $20 and instructions to not come home empty-handed. Need some reward for minding her kids.

    So, did you win?

Bollocks. She came home empty-handed. Although, she scored me a L'Oreal promo kit. So no cashola but a shocking volume mascara and some 'hologramatic' nail-polish.

Nice to see the blackboard put to good use! I 'dressinggown-uped' for the day. Hope you had fun.

    Bollocks from my end too!

Oh. Lazy Cow got in before me about the blackboard :-)

This was the first year in a while I didn't get involved in any Melb Cup thingie. Don't know what to think about it yet. Though, the preschool pickup pretty much killed watching it happening stone dead!

Lunch was divine, but I missed the actual race as I ended up in a disused room 'babysitting' .. ie: chasing my son around a table and etc ..

No matter, I really went for the food and a glass of vino anyway :)

We had a couple of wins in Sweeps, and i'd put a bet on "Pop Rock" ( and "letmeentertainyou" in another race - see a trend there ? )

Stomper - I was wearing that holographic nailpolish on my toes ( I only ever paint my toes, go figure .. ). It's good stuff.

I missed out too... but I've never been lucky in sweeps.

I still find it amazing that the whole country "stops" for this race. My son actually watched it at school!

Hate to tell you. I backed Pop Rock for a place and Lyndon backed the winner! We made an $80 profit. Nice.

I always thought that the "fascinator" was something they made up on Kath and Kim, until a bloke came in to work complaining about how much his wife spent on one!

What the hell is a "fascinator" ? I've heard the term used but am still in the dark.
