    Boy-Doll

Love this doll I picked up on the cheap ( apparently most mummies don't like their dolls with 'bits' ... oh, get over yourselves, whoever you are !! )

Anyway, I picked it up because a doll has been keeping the littlest one occupied at the Speech Therapist while the older boy does his 'lessons'. So cute to watch him talk and coo and gurgle at the 'little baby'. The older boy has kind of taken it over though.

The doll sure likes to poo & wee and burp.

The Speech Therapy is going well.
Basically for us, it's reprogramming the parents not to be complacent and lazy, so it's more school for me than him. MC is well above his age group in most of the tests, and really only falls down in Articulation, and a little in Grammar/Sentence Structure. It's one of those thing that although it's not a worry, it can all snowball if you don't stomp on the bad habits now. Anyway, I think we're all enjoying it - the 4yr old is a sponge desperate to soak and do a good job, so that makes it all the more easier.

Bizarrely, I found this in the Yr.11 diary: " Went to Careers '86 in Canberra. Really excellent! Got info on nearly all types of jobs. Found a new one I hadn't considered - Speech Therapy - sounds great !"

Yeah, but look at the doll's face, no wonder he poos, wees and burps; clearly some bad gas going on there.

you know I had this almost exact same conversation at an expensive doll shop just before Christmas. Was considering buying Grace a boy doll, as all her dollies seem to be female or indeterminate. Which I think is a bit weird. But they had run out of boy dolls anyway.... Which leads me to another weird thing I've noticed, some of the mothers at the new playgroup seem to worry when their boy children play with dolls or teddies, even when pushing them round on the back of trucks or at breakneck speed in one of the prams...

I think the boy-doll is great and it comes with great accessories (and I mean the nappy etc. here).

My boy did speech therapy at 4 years and responded really well at that age. They are really ready to start taking 'teaching' instruction at that age I think. Good on you. It's worth it.

Please continue posting your diary from the 80s. (I've got to live vicariously through someone's life!)

Glad it's going well. You really have to keep reading those diaries - super weird!

I noticed a big difference in speech development between boys and girls in the younger years so I think it's normal to a degree. Of course, my 16 year old boy still uses the fewest words possible to communicate. The male of the species are still really grunting cave dwellers in their dreams after all.

I don't think I've ever seen a doll like that!

We had a boy doll too. And a cabbage patch called Carl, who used to smell like baby powder but now just smells like dirt.

If it is just articulation, then you don't need to worry about anything.

The boy doll is fine, much better than one of those freaky icky Newborn lifelike jobbies, enough to put you off having a real one, shudder.

I was thinking only recently. Why no boy dolls? Well, there ya go. I'm so glad the speech therapy is going well.

    Waaay trippy.

    Love boy doll.

Young Joe is having some coaching at the moment because his spelling is so poor. I, for no good reason except that maybe I though it was pushy, was kind of against coaching. Seeing the improvement in his confidence has put paid to that.

    I've never seen a boy-doll. Very cool.

Maybe I should get my little one a doll - he loves other babies, maybe he'd like a dolly. :D

We have lots of dolls here (all named ....belle - Clarabelle, Ethabelle you get the idea) and then we have Elizabelle. Also known as Ugly Baby. I haven't checked in a while b/c Ugly Baby languishes at the bottom of the toybox/doll hierachy but I think she may well be a boy. I may have to get brave and dig her out for a look.

On a different note I am so pleased to hear the comments made by you/professional about promoting language development in smalls. I always thought I was being too harsh on mine (and borrowed ones) but I shall now continue down that track! Thanks :-)

Great idea - the boy doll. I think they are fantastic.
I also think you should keep your diaries, I love hearing your insights from the past.

Love that doll. My niece was looking for one with bits, to give to her nephew, who has just got a baby brother. She couldnt find one anywhere.
SG loves to play with a doll here now & then, but what his father doesn't see doesn't hurt.

I bet we passed each other at Careers '86 in Canberra!!!

We have Johnny and Bella in our house - both dolls with all their bits!!! We think they are great.

Although Johnny is No.2 because Johnny No.1 got left on top of the car and I drove off - the kids still think my littlest daughter dropped him in the street and someone stole him!!

I am not owning up after ALL these years!!
