    'Tis the Season

We've got a Christmas party here next week, so i've been frantically cleaning windows, planning menus, chucking crap out and getting the garden spick n span.

Garden's looking good actually - the new peach tree had to be re-staked due to an abundance of fruit, and the transplanted Iceberg Roses and English lavender survived the temporary move ( thanks to Symone for recommending Multicrop Plant Starter - the roses went from near dead to thriving again ! )
The hydrangeas have also survived their move, and everything's blooming.
I love this time of year - cut flowers in the house, and all of them free.

Cut the lawn yesterday, tidied the greenhouse, put up new homemade decorations and chinese lanterns; got up on the stepladder and strung our only mature tree with fairy lights.

I love fairy lights at any time of year.

In my last two houses I had them strung up all year round - I think they suited those small coutyards better than this huge yard though ( easier to maintain too ! )

AB is home on Tuesday and we are going to plant out the front garden - well part of it anyway.
We've got a Silver birch, some strappy natives, some box hedge and some roses to go in - oh, and some solar garden lights to light the way.

    Excellent.

I love cut hydrangeas, they look so cottagey and homely. They always remind me of my childhood as we had heaps of them and Mum would put them all through the house.
I also love silver birches. In fact I think I like most of the plants you've mentioned.
After the great renovation (whenever that eventuates...) I plan to have burgundy icebergs along our front fence.
Home grown peaches sound fantastic. We have a pear tree which is heaving, but I don't like pears - its a texture thing.

Long time lurker, first time commenter (is that even a word?).

Your garden is lovely. We've just invested in some solar garden lights and I want to get some fairy lights for the trees as well. Hopefully I can find some solar powered fairy lights.

Great work in your garden and your blog, you inspire me.
