    Flashback Friday - 1970

    Post-Baptism Celebrations

This is me at 7months old, after my Christening.

My mother is 17yrs old and this is in the first house we lived in after I was born. She also made the curtains.
She had a thing for gingham cafe-style curtains. I think because they were easy.

I quite like her funky outfit here.
It seems to be a coat-dress, or maybe a suit ? I'll have to ask.
I like the way the hair-ribbon mirrors the neck-tie-thingy ( what are they called again ? )

That's my maternal grandfather's head coming in from the right.

I didn't have my first baby until I was 34yrs old, exactly twice the age of my mother here.
Who the hell has babies at 17 ?

I was too busy trying to look cool and sophisticated ( see: cigarettes, short skirts ) and was yet to even be noticed by a boy at 17.

I had to leave THE COUNTRY to even get a boyfriend, and I certainly wasn't thinking of setting up house and having babies. Ugh !!

Anyway, I wasn't a planned babe, and so a wedding was arranged.
I had nothing to wear, so I went In Utero ( a bit of yumour there, Kimmy )

They were married here ( take a look, it's really beautiful ). 7 months later I was born, and this was also where I was christened.

Wow, what a flashback that was! Gee your mum was young wasn't she? But how cool (but how baby-like) does your mummy look? The church looks beautiful, like the gingham! Heehee. (Hey, how cold is that wind I ask you?)

Oh my gosh - what an awesome photo! and 17 *is* so young! Did they end up staying together? Obviously they did a good job with you :)

There's a definite resemblance to Master in the christening pic! Wow, 17! She's beautiful too.

I thought it was an older sister or cousin holding you. She looks so young. She was so young. I had my first bub at 33, my Mum had already had 5 pregnancies and 3 kids by that age.

I just love the sweet little romper suit you were wearing.

We share a similar beginnig, except that my mum was 19!

Are you finding these revelations cathartic? There seems to be so much more to each post than just a flashback. Each post reveals a little more of the omnipitent.

Excellent picture, your Mum looks extremely beautiful and so young - it's gorgeous. You two have a nice relationship now don't you? I was 32 with number one child and 35 with the second. I must say, I just saw your Flickr pregnant pics...you are absolutely stunning at 12 weeks. Lucky you!! I am soooooo envious.

She was very pretty :) I like the outfit too.

My sister had her first at 17 and now her 'baby' is 17 himself and I cannot imagine him being a dad at this age.

I'm sort of getting into the spirit of your Flashback Fridays. I don't really have photos of myself as a kid so I've posted some music videos of songs I liked from the 80's :D

I love looking at old photos. It's funny how things change yet stay the same. I remember wearing a neck bow thing like that. I don't know what it's called either.

And then, when she was 34, you were all grown up, and she was still a sprightly spring chicken, which is kinda cool!

What an amazing pic. And yes - so so young. I had a friend who had 2 babies by the age of 18. She now has daughters aged 20 and 21! Gee it makes me feel old!

Look what happens when I miss a day on the blogs! So happy to read that you are cooking another bundle of joy!

That kitchen looks scarily familiar. Taps coming out of the wall etc. My mum had her first two kids at 20 and 21 and she was married some seven months before the first arrived; but this is VERY hush hush in our family - because, you know, no-one at that time could do the maths! Anyway, I came along when she was 30 - me I'm legitimate ha ha!

I just can't imagine any 17 year olds I know being able to look after a baby. But I guess many do. (And obviously, your Mum did a first class job with you!) Were you the kid at school with the really cool (i.e very young) Mum?

I just love the enormous smiles on both those lovely faces. Wow - seventeen - flippin heck. My mum had had seven kids by the time she was thirty two - seven of us under nine years of age - by the time the last couple came along apparently even the nuns were nudging each other and muttering "you'd think she's learn..." I was thirty two when I had my first -

OMG, MC definitely resembles you! And your mum, she looks great. 17 blows me away. It took me to 39 to be ready to attempt to look after my first, no way could I have done it at 17. Compliments to mum, she did a sterling job. My mum would love the gingham.

Congratulations again for NB, great news.

I wasn't planned either( and attended my parents wedding in utero, and was at their 21st birthdays, as a toddler... which is why I could have a babe at 41 and still have youngish grandparents

Different times eh. My my mum had me at 28 (40 years ago) and was it was considered very old, how would she cope, was it safe, bla bla. My sister had her baby (6 years ago) at 28 too. Only she was considered quite a young mother!

I LOVE your mother's outfit. What I can see of the kitchen looks cute too. (Believe it or not, in the town of 2830 people in which I live, there are still 16 and 17 year olds having babies, often. And they're babies themselves these days.)

Oh I can totally relate to that post. My mum was 17 years of age as well. She got married in July and had me in September. Gee I just could not imagine that, but my mum had a hard childhood and started working when she was 14 yrs old, so I guess in many ways things were quite a lot different back then. The only reason she could get married before she was 21 was if she was pregnant, so everyone would have known the reason why she was getting married too. I never had any children until I turned 25 years old, and had my 2nd child at 32 years old. I really dont know anyone else who had their children that early in my age bracket so you are the first.

I can't imagine having a child at 17, I was too "not maternal". Even 13 years later, with three kids I wonder if I am maternal enough. Cute picture, your post about it was beautiful.
