    Nostalgia

    I must be getting old.

Anyway, since my 'The Camera and the History of Me' post, i've been out in the garage trying to find some good photos to illustrate my cameras.
I also know there's a particularly wicked photo of me posing for Physie somewhere, but I can't find it ( yet ! ).

I also seem to have lived in the same pair of jeans for the whole of the 80's ( knotted and bleached, then torn, ripped strategically for effect ).
    I loved those jeans.

So, they will come ... they will come ....

In the meantime, I see there is a new group on flickr.
Having all my piccies out, I couldn't resist.

    Me, 1989:

This was my first and only perm. I think it took 10years for it to completely dissappear ( because I never cut my hair ), and was a dried, frizzy mess.

I wore violet eyeliner and blue mascara, and a pink lippy not dissimilar to the shade I wear today. You also probably can't tell, but in this photo, I weighed 70kgs - which is about the same weight I was in 2004 full term with a 4kg baby in me, and another 15kgs of blood, gunk and gore.

Exchange students do stack on the kilos though.
For a small-town girl with no Maccas etc, and the last shop open was the petrol station ( which shut at 9pm ) and a household full of home-grown veges, fresh eggs, and not much in the way of junk, America was pretty amazing.

    I ate it all.

Also, my teeth - they look so long and strong and white. I've basically ground them down to yellow stumps these days and try to smile without showing them. Gah !

I've been quoted $20k to get them fixed, which isn't an unusual price ( i've checked ), so I guess i'll continue to keep my mouth closed when talking to people ;)

( Oh - P.S. - no scanner here, so pic is a pic of a pic ( get that ?!), hence quality might be a bit fuzzy )

Anyone else dare to share ? ;)

Snap. Fairlie circa 1989 = same permed hairstyle (only dark blonde), violet eyeliner and blue mascara (also sometimes blue eyeliner and violet mascara). Accessorised with royal blue nailpolish.

Oh dear...And NO, no chance of any photos of that seeing the light of cyber-day.

    Oooh lovely.

I stacked on the weight when I was an exchange student to the US too. (1981-2). All that American FOOD! Gads.

I had a little chuckle when my daughter came home with her new make up purchases last week - eye liners in blues and pinks.
i think you look very stylish! (and you are oh so brave)

I would not have recognised you!!! The hair - style and colour certainly make a huge difference.

But, I certainly didn't see yellow teeth. You're probably comparing yourself to the news presenters now.

Hmmm, I wonder if I should drag out an 80's shot...

Fabulous. Simply fabulous! I did silently chuckle when I spied that you had posted a piccie of your late 80's self. Yay for you. We not teeth king and queen around here either, so trust me when I say I totally understand.

Just one perm your whole life? That is so restrained. I can't remember how many I had. Even when I had my punk-girl spike I would grow my fringe long and get it permed.

Oh and is this your prom/formal dress? Because compared to the strappy, flimsy things the young gels are wearing these days you look like a nun.

A really nice, pretty nun with a lovely smile.

You mean you really want me to post a photo of myself wearing jockey silks being a promo girl at the races?

    Not likely.

exchange students to south africa also ate their way through the year... I think there was a song we used to sing to that effect?

am now very, very tempted to post a late 80s pic...

Looking forward to more 80's flashbacks from you! Oh, and yes, I accept your dare and posted mine.

I've had a very big laugh at one of my pictures.

My sister had a hairstyle very similar to this. Only she is quite blonde and used to wear a black and white spotted scarf as a headband in there.

I remember the days. I had a perm similar and used to wear blue and purple mascara. Your picture is great and so American Yearbook!! Can't wait to see the others.

I've never had a perm. I think 1989 was when I was trying to grow out my short layers at the sides...

Wow, I've never had a perm but I did used to dye my hair bright orange & fire-engine red ala annie lennox - that short too! No, there will be no photies.
And make up - wow again, I didn't really start wearing make up until I was in my 30s! You were clearly a much, much braver girlie!

You see nothing and I mean nothing could induce me to share an eighties photo. The body was good - and lord knows I look back and wonder how I could have been so self conscious about it all the time - it was GOOD - but the hair - flippin' heck - kind of Duran Duranish for much of that decade -

Adorable. I think I win the hairstyle disaster award though. I cheated, true. But still. I joined the senior picture group on flickr as well.

You must be kidding no way! I remember suffering an awful 80's perm - I wouldn't go out for a week.

I love it! I'll have to dig around and find something of my own :)

Now I know why you were sooooo Physie/Fizzy obsessed?!! It was that perm ;-)

Oh! I think I was onto my third spiral perm by 1989 - it was my last as the hairdressers were so crap they turned my hair into elastic which then promptly fell out in chunks. As a variation I used to wear a little bit of blue eye shadow in the corner of my bottom eye lid - I was soooooo ahead of everyone (or sooooo out of it!) All other eye stuff was black, black and more black - which for a redhead was a smidge over the top! Loved sneaking a peak of you back then. If Bec posts a piccie of herself I will too!

Well, I think you looked lovely! Not a lot like recent pics, but still it was the fashion then!
And I mourn my beautiful teeth, too. Was once asked if they were false, they were so white & even. Babies took a toll, lost one per child.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

In 1989 I was into Australis Green eyeliner and mascara...ahh the memories!

LOVE the photo. I thought older girls with perms were so cool in 1990. One thing I would do very quickly if suddenly becoming a millionaire is go and get $20,000 worth of work on my terrible teeth, for sure.

You are a perfect candidate for Flashback Fridays! Hurrah!

Every Friday you have to upload a photo pre 1985 onto your blog. Lets share the 70s & 80s love.

Oh this could be me! Add some big hooped earrings and a pack of Alpine lights and that's basically me (although I have to say you were much prettier!!).

Hey, you look like my girlfriend back in the 80's, but I think most girls looked like that! And I think every girl I know went through the same perm thing. Very 80's, and very Melbourne! LOL
