Well, you all convinced me, and an electric hand-mixer was bought today ( along with a new toaster that you don't have to manually hold down while your toast browns because the 'pop-up' mechanism went bung, and the toaster is less than 2yrs old .. grr .. )

I'm not sure it was warranted, but there has been a few occasions now that a fork whizzed fast in a bowl hasn't given me the perfect result expected.
    And it was husband's money.
He said it could be my b'day present ( this whole family are all born within a week or so of each other ;)

So Friday's "BIG 3" cake had better be a winner, and better than a fork whizzed in a bowl can produce*, otherwise i'll be mighty UNimpressed.

On the b'day front, i'm nearly all there .. only the food to make and we're all done.
I've really enjoyed this lead-up, unlike the horror that is Xmas.
I think I far prefer a more personal date than one that is fought over and fraught over by every Tom, Dick, and Jesus..

*P.S. - why does all my manual labour NOT result in toned buff arms that bring all the boys to my yard ?

    Why am I still cultivating bingo-wings ? Harumph !

Wow, I love all the little bunting thank yous - very cute. You need my 'failproof stir with any old spoon chocolate simplicity cake' that we use for all our parties. I love a recipe that doesn't require creaming butter and sugar! Good luck with the party!

You don't have bingo-wings! You have everything as to why your milkshake brings all the boys to the yard... damn straight, its better than theirs... you could teach them, but you'd have to charge....

Good luck on the Birthday circuit.

What is it with appliances? Same luck here. We've found vacuum cleaners to be one of the worst. It's as if the bunting jumped straight from the pages of better homes and gardens. I am completely IMpressed. Hoping all goes smashingly! Looking forward to photos aplenty (no pressure).

Yes some of your wonderful photos please!

And as to the wings... they sneak up on you. My granddaughter calls mine "puffies'. How humiliating since I was much youger when she first called them that... now I dont care.

Tricep dips and lots of them, it's the only way.

I think you have made the best ever loot bags in the world.

Three year-old parties are fun. Cherub still talks about his red aeroplane cake; it was his first birthday party where he really knew what was going on and he just loved it.

You dinner from the other night looked mouth watering!

Love your "bingo-wings" reference. I just saw your comment over Tracey's way about the crepey texture to the back of your hands - you sure you weren't talking about the newly emergent crepey waffle on my neck? I'm only 37!!!!! This isn't fair ;-)

Strike "Tracey's way" and insert "My Float's way". See, the memory is going on me too!

rowing fixes the arms like a treat, but honestly, you get to a certain age and you think, "bugger it, life's too short".

You KNOW it's not arms that bring the boys to the yard, don't you?! They're looking elsewhere, so don't worry about arms, work on your ... other assets. You'll be fine!

Are you telling when it is your birthday this month? I hope so, I would hate to miss it.

Wow, those lolly bags are fantastic!

Good luck with making the cake. (But I'm not quite sure about an acceptable electric mixer being a birthday present. I think he got off too lightly!!)

    And yes, photos please!

I've never acquired a mixer either so I'm looking forward to hearing how you travel with one.

I only bought myself a (cheap) electric hand mixer too and I loved it. So much so that when Xmas time came my parents and the (future) in-laws pooled theeir $ togwther and I bought a Sunbeam 'retro' red mix master. I would seriously be lost without it now. I didn't realise cakes were sooo easy to make! (I have made cakes since I was a wee lassie, all with the use of a wooden spoon - not no more!)

Your 'Thanks' little boxes look wonderful. You've got me all inspired...

    Have a wonderful birthday party.

In lieu of a hand mixer you could always stick a thin-handled whisk into a power drill.
